Not all abuse is physical, however, and not all victims report assaults. On average, nearly 10 million men and women are physically abused every year, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports. In the US, 24 percent of women and 14 percent of men have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime, according to The National Domestic Violence Hotline.
